Mornington 2010

17.8.10

On Tuesday (13/7), Pat drove me all the way from Blackheath to Sydney Domestic from where I made the long journey to Rory's parents' place on the south coast of Victoria. Elaine's antique emporium and dog-grooming and minding boutique is just about what anyone would hope to be able to afford as they neared retirement age, I think: high ceilings, fancy light switches, wooden floorboards, big rooms. If only the beach were nicer!

Dogs were walked. Abnormally large seagulls were sighted.

Everton played Melbourne Heart at Etihad on Wednesday (14/7). It was a pretty laid-back affair with the tone being set by an early Louis Saha penalty. The PA guy actually went ahead and announced "goal by Luis Saha" as if in expectation. Alas, it took a bit longer for Everton to claim the lead. They ended with a victory 2-0. The cleansheet wasn't ever really threatened. Heart's left winger slowed the game down at every opportunity. Skoko and co. in the middle, not unlike goldfish, repeatedly and unsuccessfully went with the direct approach, dribbling straight into Everton's defensive midfielders as the game petered out. Alan's Kiwi workmate sure enjoyed wheeling out his accents. The wait staff was like a Miss Universe pageant in terms of both cultural diversity and attractiveness. Boy, was the steak rare.

The train to the city on Thursday (15/7) was held up by police who were looking for someone. 90 minutes it took! There was a guy who was going to be late for a uni exam. An African guy was doing something really annoying I can't remember. A devil child was making faces at me. It was worth it when we got there, though. Melbourne's foreign language shop is better than Abbey's. We found an awesome second hand CD store on Brunswick street. I got a sweet Mickey Mouse sloppy joe. Chinese for dinner was welcomed.

I was a beneficiary of Alan and Elaine's decadent spending spree as lunch on the final day (16/7) was at The Rocks. They spell it "Schnapper" there.
