Blackheath 2010

17.8.10

When the Siow, Clemens and Feggans families first decided to go to the Blue Mountains for a holiday the year was 2003. Tim, Gareth, Chris and Pat were in their first year of High School... perhaps a little bit too old to think bushwalks with your family were cool but still young enough to run around with a footy or soccer ball 'til dark. Somewhere along the track, the Dunnes were added to the mix.

2010 was the 8th edition of us all making the trek out there but the first year the getaway could not be staged at the winter wonderland that was Wombat Lodge. Somewhere between last and this year it got sold! We moved to Blackheath to little change: lasagne and curry and strog on the first night; Risk, Grass, Articulate, Scattergories, Make 5, Emperors and Peasants; ambrose golf, huge sloppy hamburgers after golf.

I left Sydney after everyone else on Sunday (11/7). Pat was 2 hours or something late. His reward was having his picture taken. Driving in fog was pretty cool. It's amazing how big they make some street signs.

The FIFA World Cup Final wrapped up on Monday (12/7) morning. David Basheer bundled his way through again but Fozzie's presence was pleasantly surprising. It was a rather dour affair punctuated by Nigel de Jong's studs in Xabi Alonso's chest (one of a host of fouls from the Oranje in the first half hour). Holland tried to kill Spain's passing game with aggression and physicality and conceded possession for long periods of time. Iker Casillas was the saviour vs. Robben on two crucial occasions. Spain pressed and pressed and created a few half chances. Deep in extra time, Andrés Iniesta finally let everyone go back to bed with a volley to seal the Jules Rimmet trophy for La Furia. Spain are the champions - smiles all round!

I had amazing luck in Grass. I suck at 500 and need to practice. Antique shopping... maybe when I have my own place.
