Yellow, Is It Really?

I'm terrible with lyrics,

I tend to listen to the instruments as a whole
Or I tap along with the drums
And my mind is blank
Or I'm preoccupied with other things.
It washes over me
And all I know is what I think about it.
If I like it,
Whether I find it interesting
Or repulsive
Or way too contrived.
It takes me a long time to learn track names
As I usually let them blend together.
I won't know the name of my favourite song from the album,
I won't know how many songs that are even in it
Until I force myself to make an effort.
Before then, I know it only by sound and feel.

When people like the same music as me
And know all the track names
And all of the lyrics
And they can sing along
It makes me wonder:
"How can we both like this
When we listen to completely different things
In completely different ways?"

But that's what amazes me about the process of thought.
Even if we are told that the light is yellow
Or that the music is good
We will always perceive it in a way specific to ourself
And we will like it for what we believe it to be.
