His compatriot Mesut Özil was also brilliant as Real Madrid beat Ajax 2-0. Real actually looked really decent... Alonso, Khedira, di María, Ronaldo, Özil and Higuaín look gelled as a fluid midfield-attack unit. I'll always be a Barça man though and they artfully destroyed Panathinaikos (who have 4 ex-Liverpool players in their squad!).
