Fleeting But Free

It was just one day

Or was it a date -
'Til today, I still don't know.
I was slow on the upswing.
At one point, I just plain resisted.
To be honest, I thought it was going poorly.
I still don't know how it happened.

It was just one afternoon.
The battle lines were drawn early -
We found ourselves on the same side.
Deafened by the rain.
The steam was leaving us like souls reaching for heaven.
We forgot we hated each other -
It was all rawness and instinct.

It was just one night.
Fearless was I.
It felt great in those fleeting moments,
Like throwing a stone at a passing car.
The rest isn't important in this recount.
