Xabi Alonso

6.8.09

Xabi,
So you're leaving.

Thanks for playing with passion,
For playing for the shirt.
Thanks for playing on another year
Even when Rafa wanted GazBaz to replace you.
Thanks for treating us to your ridiculous drilled long ball technique which I would be ecstatic to replicate just once!

I will always remember that early morning in 2005,
You are without doubt the scorer of the most important scraps-from-a-missed-penalty-style-goal in the history of Liverpool Football Club.

You will always be an idol and one of my most favourite players in the world.
But I really cannot wish you any success with your new club.
(Va Barca!)
You'll Never Walk Alone

Oh also, Rhys Adam - thought I'd add this too.
Scouser, Darren Farley (who's a great football impressionist for those who didn't know), does a short clip of Xabi here:

getting a little bit over-sentimental there, tim?
the old number fourteen. have to admit though, i'll miss the dives to get cahill sent off in the derby. i'll miss the calming presence in an otherwise disgustingly poor midfield. you'll miss a player who if you were going to win the prem this season, would have been instrumental in gaining it.
he's alright though, old xabs

i was actually holding back and could've written a much sappier tribute. i wrote what i thought was necessary haha.
alex ferguson: they're a small club with a small club mentality, that's why we're all they can ever think and talk about. same idea, slightly darker shirt.
it's august and not may.
